Tentacles of black
Creeping over everything
Hiding in the back

And in dark corners
Of every place I have known
It makes mourners

Of happier men
Who know not how to survive
Without a close friend

Tentacles surround
Suffocate my aching heart
Seeking fertile ground

For insecurities to grow and sprout,
Someone, please drive these deadly demons out!

Author's Comments

I felt like writing a haiku sonnet, so this is what I got. Fixed form poetry is fun, as long as it's not complications for the sake of complications - and I feel like there's sufficient meaning in the form to merit such a combination.

be who you are
and say what you mean
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind.

This world we live in is in a constant state of deception. Minds can never be pure, changed, or replaced. Our emotions are what gave us the trait emotion for the human race.
